INDUSTRIAL AND NATURAL IMAGES

an exhibition of original oil paintings

Battersea Power Station VIII. Oil £750 SOLD

“I find unlimited sources of inspiration in the lines of an industrial landscape which become more and more abstract as I continue to explore. Under the influence of
Prunella Clough while at Chelsea Art School, I have always been captivated by cranes, factories, piers, etc. Since moving to Norfolk thirty years ago from London, I have also become captivated by movement and colours of grasses, hedgerows and the reflections in the river near where I live. The seasons cast so many different aspects of colour and light on the surrounding countryside”.

‘The spaces in between have always fascinated me, whether they are produced by trees, industrial landscapes, grasses and wildflowers, or reflections.

I have two approaches to painting: one factual, the other Imaginative; the latter produces a broader, freer style because there are no factual details to inhibit me. But the former I find intriguing and I find subjects all around in everything I see.’

Born in Hampton, but brought up in Chelsea, Levin spent five years at The Chelsea School of Art 1951-1956, studying fine art, sculpture, lettering, printmaking, and graphic art. On leaving, she worked at the Design Centre, Haymarket, and was a member of the F.H.K. Henrion group of designers. Levin has exhibited all over the country and her work has been purchased by private and public collections in this country and abroad.

Her work has progressed from very strong composition towards a more lyrical style fulfilling the promise noted by Eric Newton in 1960 when he wrote:

‘She is already a painter of considerable accomplishment:
there are no weak spots or casual approximations.’
